Woodcraft
Born from a long-standing friendship, Woodcraft has grown into a distinctive force both in the jazz and classical music scene in the Netherlands, giving the violin, viola and cello a renewed voice in today’s musical landscape. Through curiosity and openness to various genres and techniques, they seek to reinvent their instruments to create a fresh and personal sound. They won both the jury and audience awards at the Dutch Jazz Competition 2022, as well as the Keep an Eye awards 2026. They performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Grachtenfestival, and Cello Biennale, and played together with Reinier Baas, Oene van Geel and Martin Fondse, among others. Their third album is set to be released in April 2027.
understrøm

Understrøm is an acoustic trio with a remarkable instrumentation. They met at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and have worked together closely over the past years; working in depth on textures and soundscapes, as well as with melodic tunes. A modern chamber music ensemble, with a meditative and groovy undercurrent (understrøm) that constantly drives it forward. This results in a vibrant and unpredictable sound, where prepared instruments and an unusual percussion setup give the ensemble a distinctive and contemporary identity. The group is set to release their debut album in early 2027.

Wouter Grew up playing classical music with teacher Rita Rouw in Groningen. Playing in the Haydn Youth String Orchestra, he fell in love with the music of Bach, Shostakovich and Benjamin Britten. Later he got into jazz and improvised music through violinists like Theo Ceccaldi and Adam Baldych, as well as musicians like Immanuel Wilkins and Brad Mehldau, musicians that heavily influenced both his playing and his composing practice. During his master’s, he did research on using the physical space as a parameter in music, and formed his project Proximity, a project that aims to break the barriers of the traditional concert stage. Space has been an important theme in his work, which led him to work interdisciplinary in different settings, and be part of various dance and theater productions.
Wouter Torringa (2000) is an improvising violinist, violist and composer. He started his studies in 2020 at the Conservatory of Utrecht, Netherlands, where he studied with jazz-violinist George Dumitriu. With his ensemble Woodcraft he played at prominent venues and festivals in the Netherlands, like Bimhuis, Lantaarnvenster and Tivolivredenburg, and toured internationally in Spain, the UK and Scandinavia. They won both the jury and audience awards at the Dutch Jazz Competition 2022, as well as the Keep an Eye awards 2026. In Norway he is part of various bands and ensembles, like art-rock band Happy Blue and his own projects Understrøm and Proximity.
